Offhand is a local-first writing app. Everything you write stays on your device. We do not collect personal data, we do not require an account, and we have no server that stores your writing. Your work only ever leaves your device when you choose to export or share it.
What stays on your device
All of your content — your Moments, works, titles, author name, and settings — is stored only in local storage on your device, plus a plain-text Markdown mirror kept inside the app's private folder. There is no cloud account, no automatic sync, and no backend that receives your writing. If you delete the app or lose your device, this data is gone, so please use the in-app Back up data and Export features to keep your own copies.
Information we do not collect
We do not collect, transmit, or store any of the following:
- Your name, email, phone number, or any contact information
- Any account or login (there is no sign-up)
- Your location
- Device identifiers or advertising identifiers
- Usage analytics, tracking, or crash telemetry
- The content you write
Providing an author name is optional; if you enter one, it is saved locally on your device and used only inside the exports you create.
Purchases
Offhand offers an optional paid upgrade (an annual subscription). All payments are processed by Apple through the App Store. We never see or receive your payment card, billing address, or Apple ID. The app only receives a validation result from Apple indicating whether your purchase is active, so it can unlock paid features. Apple's handling of your purchase data is governed by Apple's Privacy Policy.
Newsletter（信箱）
When you open the in-app newsletter, the app downloads a public file from our website (offhand.ink) to display recent messages. This request sends none of your writing or personal information. Like any normal web request, our host may record standard technical log data (such as an IP address) for security and reliability. We do not use this to identify or track you.
Photos and files
Saving images: When you export a work as an image, the app asks for permission to add it to your photo library. It only adds the images you create; it does not read or scan your existing photos.
Import and share: Importing a Markdown file or sharing an export acts only on the specific file you choose. Nothing is uploaded to us.

If you email us for support or feedback (hzplaytime@gmail.com), we will see the information you include in your message and use it only to respond to you.
Third parties
The only third parties involved are Apple (for App Store purchases) and our own static website host (for the newsletter file above). There are no advertising networks, analytics SDKs, or data brokers in Offhand.
Children
Offhand is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect data from anyone — children included.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be reflected on this page with a new "Last updated" date.
